Arts Council National Lottery Project grant Awarded for my current project 'Paradise Lost'.
This work explores the rich history of shipwrecks in Plymouth in relation to empire, slavery and indenture. It is being made in collaboration with the Archaeological team 'Ships Project Plymouth' and is also supported by a commission from The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art, for an exhibition in the Autumn 2020. The work will have many parts-including moving image, still photography and installation. This image is a still from recent filming for the project with the Kolkata based singer and archivist, Moushumi Bhowmik. This specially composed (and beautifully performed) song 'Ke jash re ei" translates from Bengali as 'In these Drowning Times'...a lament for our times perhaps.
